Please join us on January 19th as we peer into our crystal ball for a look at the Economic and Construction Forecast for the Indianapolis Metro area in 2012. CSI is pleased to present a two person panel discussion with two distinguished speakers, Dr. Bernie Markstein, Chief Economist for Reed Construction Data, and Gordon Hendry, First Vice President with the Indianapolis Office of CB Richard Ellis, a global commercial real estate services firm.

Bernard M. Markstein, U.S. Chief Economist for Reed Construction Data, provides economic analysis and forecasts of commercial construction activity. Dr. Markstein is frequently quoted in the national press and in trade publications and also has been interviewed for both radio and TV, including Bloomberg TV and Nightly Business Report on PBS.

Prior to joining Reed Construction Data, Dr. Markstein was Senior Economist and Vice president, Economic Forecasting and Analysis, for the National Association of Home Builders, providing analysis on national and regional housing issues. He was responsible for tracking developments and trends in the multifamily housing market and for monitoring forces affecting building materials prices.

Among his professional activities, Dr. Markstein is past Chair for the Financial Roundtable of the National Association for Business Economics (NABE). Dr. Markstein served as Chair of the Economic Advisory Committee for the Pennsylvania Bankers Association, and is a former president of the Philadelphia Council for Business Economics. Also, Dr. Markstein is a contributor to the Quarterly NABE Economic Policy Survey.

Gordon Hendry is a member of CBRE's Public Institutions and Education Solutions Group, where he provides real estate advisory services to state and local governments, universities and colleges. He also provides real estate advisory services to corporate and not for profit clients. He spent approximately two years working with the PIES Group in Washington, D.C., prior to returning to Indianapolis.

Mr. Hendry’s experience also includes almost two years leading the Indy Partnership, a 10-county regional economic development organization based in Indianapolis and the largest in Indiana. While leading the Indy Partnership, Mr. Hendry supervised economic development for the Indianapolis region. He traveled on investment missions across the globe, including Gov. Mitch Daniels’ official trade delegation to Europe to attract new business to Indiana. His efforts culminated in Medco Health Solution’s announcement in December 2007 to invest over $190 million and create over 1,300 new jobs in the region. In May 2007, the Indy Partnership was named as one of the top 10 economic development groups in the country by Site Selection magazine.

Prior to joining the Indy Partnership, Mr. Hendry served as a top adviser to Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson. He spent almost three years as the City’s Director of Economic Development, managing the economic development efforts of Indianapolis including business outreach and recruitment, job creation, incentives, workforce development, airport and transportation issues, downtown and neighborhood development, legislation and new initiatives.

Our speakers will share their knowledge and insights related to the national, regional, and local economic conditions and how they will impact commercial construction in the Indy metro area in 2012. Perhaps they’ll even make some bold predictions!
