The presentation will be about the history of sustainable American hardwood. Some of the topics that will be covered are:

  • Veneer manufacturing, 
  • Kiln drying and its importance of acclimation of hardwood products for interiors
  • LEED and FSC Certification
  • Grading Lumber
  • Global applications of American hardwoods

Quartersawn hardwoods will also be discussed; its stability and durability, along with examples of applications. The historic use of quartersawn white oak will be covered, as well as, specification realities for widths, lengths and thickness.

About the Presenter:

Criswell Davis, Architectural Marketing Consultant for Frank Miller Lumber and The American Hardwood Export Council has been in the hardwood business for 28 years and has represented Frank Miller Lumber, the world’s largest quartersawn hardwood sawmill, for 19 years.  He has served on the Board of Directors for the Wood Products Manufacturers Association, the Western Hardwood Association and the Hardwood Federation PAC in Washington D.C.

 He regularly represents Frank Miller Lumber in presentations to architects and designers in the US and lectures internationally on behalf of the American Hardwood Export Council, talking about American hardwoods in design and quartersawing. A renowned speaker, he is also a university lecturer and has presented to more than 3,000 architects, students and designers worldwide over the past 5 years.  Currently involved as an advisor on large-scale architectural projects in the US, Australia, India, China, Singapore and the UAE, he is viewed as an invaluable expert resource regarding American hardwoods in sustainable design.
